This is my current project but with all of the summer activities keeping me busy it is taking much longer than anticipated. It was inspired by giant hibiscus flowers in a Cape Cod yard that we passed on our morning walks. There were literally hundreds of blooms the size of dinner plates – so beautiful! I made several drawings and finally settled on this arrangement of five which I painted on muslin, cut out and fused onto a pieced dark batik background.
I’m now beginning to do some thread painting to enhance the beautiful flower details. Since I haven’t done a lot of this it is a challenge to decide which elements to thread paint and which to emphasize with quilting. But it is a super fun project!
