Eggplant on Vine – 9″ x 12″ colored pencils on Arches watercolor paper. This is one of the eggplants I grew last summer in containers in the back yard. Being so beautiful and saturated with color I particularly liked this one for the arrangement of leaves surrounding it.

This is the largest and most ambitious colored pencil piece I have done so far. I did this one without applying a base of color underneath and it proved to be rather difficult to fill the surface with only layers of color. I have learned much from this project but next time I’ll be trying out different techniques for applying base color and blending.
